Laura Sullivan: Perfect

I’ve listened to Sullivan before in my Pandora days, and I just re-discovered her music. I came across PERFECT single in Apple Music. It’s a piece that if lyrics were written, what would it tell? What words would best fit?

I’m listening to the track now and the cicadas are buzzing or talking to each other in the background, with the wind caressing the trees the beginning of the track like a story taking off. Not a story a writer would write, nor an author, or poet, but of a person who has seen a lot in their life. A regular person sitting on the back porch or in the garden with a story to tell.

Screen Shot 2018-06-14 at 11.04.20 AM.pngThis person as experience love, praise, heartbreak, serenity, lies, pain, adoration, friendship, trials, and death. However, this person has lived and each and every experience has made the person stronger, courageous, and resilient. I feel like this track is a person’s life waiting to be told and only heard by those willing to listen. It’s a Perfect summer afternoon or evening story of a journey.

I really love this piece. It tells the story. Lyrics would be nice, but I feel like I already hear what it the story should be or lyric will hold. I swear at the beginning, “Let me tell you of a story about a little…” is clearly expressed even heard if notes could speak.

Pay close attention to this single. What does it tell you?
