I really love this album cover for Jennifer Thomas “Oceans” with the blues that meets the ocean. While listening to the first piece, Oceans, it has a slow soft build and really describes the album cover just right. My mini story of this piece:

“A treacherous voyage in search of new land. Everything has gone wrong for the captain, and the crew is barely hanging on. They adjust the sails, tighten the ropes, and wrestle the ship through towering waves, desperate to avoid capsizing into the depths of the unknown.“

Lighthouse is from the land perspective. It’s simpler at the beginning with a purpose, a job. “Keep the light burning bright.” In the midst of storm or even a clear night, the light has to stay on for that ship to avoid crashing into land. Around 2:39 mark, the crescendo, the climax, the struggle to keep the light on intensifies. It’s a gorgeous piece, and the last thirty seconds softens because why? The ship found land or did it? Did they keep the light on or did it burn out?

There are 15 beautiful pieces to this album. I had to listen to Sea of Diamonds. At the beginning of the piece, there you find Thomas’ familiar classical touch. Half through the choir and various sounds for the climax. It reminded me of a mermaid in the Ocean. She is wearing diamonds. Strange I know, yet it goes along with the story:
I immediately thought of Trident or Poseidon ruling the Ocean, and the crew has spent days, weeks, even months navigating these waters. And, they see him and other mermaids. “Did the crew see a real mermaid? Did they see a god ruling this Ocean?” This becomes legends and tales passed on for generations to come.
I highly suggest this be added to your #writingtothemusic playlist.
