Helen Jane Long – Disconnect

Helen Jane Long albums always have that epic adventure feeling to her pieces. I know exactly when her pieces come in rotation by the first note that drops. Without looking, “This is Helen Jane Long, isn’t it?” Then reaching across by desk, tapping the screen on my phone, my eyes narrow at the words…Helen Jane Long . My silent win is a huge nod, and I think to myself, “I knew it. I’m good.” with this big cheesy smile.

Long’s work is so unique with her pieces. I do not know where she gets the inspiration, BUT I can tell you it is carefully crafted and beautifully arranged. Disconnect came out in 2022. I love the first three pieces because they are SO Helen Jane Long’s key signature written all over it.

At Your Feet has this steampunk-y feel to it. Just as the cover shows. I feel as though there should be a guitar rift somewhere in this pieces that takes it to a new level. It’s epic, exhilarating, and exciting piece of adventure or wonder.

Sakura reminds me of her Porcelain album. It’s so whimsical of deep thought and meaning. I love how this piece keeps me reflecting on life, decision making for the day. I listen to this piece particularly most of the time. Each time there is something new and different, yet it is distinctly “Helen Jane Long” signature piece.

The next piece is different. Turn it Around with the piano fluttering behind the melody to where it almost sounds like a journey to the midwest or on an Oregon trail. The slurs the melody takes and the ultimate feel of something being put together or someone climbing the stairs to reach the goal of something new or a pinnacle of some kind.

Truly entertaining album that should be added to your writing the music playlist.
